Set in the Heart of the tea country, this beautiful town is where the British succeeded in creating a little England with homes built in the architectural style of Georgian to Queen Anne. Situated at 1890 meters above sea level and sits high atop the inner highlands blanketed with cool air and misty clouds with a mean annual temperature of 16 °C (61 °F). Named "city on the Plain" overlooking the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka being Piduruthalagala. This town is ideal for tea cultivation, which is the usual sight when making your way to the top. There is no train service to Nuwaraeliya as it does not have a station; the nearest one is located in Nanu Oya, about 8 km away. Scheduled air taxi from Lake Gregory Waterdrome links Nuwaraeliya to Colombo.
